A Clinical Study Upon Leprosy Patients


Abstract
A Clinical study was carried out upon 207 Leprosy Patients which were cared at Sorokdo Leprosy Hospital from 10th Oct. 1976 to 10th Nov. 1976. The results obtained were as follows:
1. a) The distribution of the leprosy patients, according to sex, age, education and religion, among the¢¥ 207 patients, ranging from 30 years to 39, indicated the greatest number, and the sex rate between male and female was 1.2:1.
b) In education, the graduates of the primary school showed 33.6%, the highest percentage. In religion, 80.7% of them belonged to Christianity, dominate figure.
2. Knowledge of patients toward the disease.
a) 19.8% of 207 patients consider that leprosy is a hereditary and 31.4% of patients, not a communicable disease.
b) 72.5% of all patients believe that leprosy can be cared completely, and 64.3% of patients, can be prevented.
3. Recognition and requests of the patients to the medical teams.
a) 65.6% of patients are satisfied with the present way of treatment, 11.1% of patients, not satisfied.
b) They request to the medical teams more kindness and intimate relationship with them, and the detailed explanation about the treatment. 4. Psychological status of patients.
a) When they were told to have Leprosy, the vast majority of them were
extremely shocked and 59.4% of the patients had an impulse of suicide,
18.4% of the patients had an bewilderment, 9.7% depression, etc.
b) 79.2% of them answered that they thought about the death in the course
of treatment.
c) 88.9% Most of them hope to live at Hospital through their lives and not
